Laurie, Jeanne and I met at 10am, sketchbooks in hand. Unlike the usual warm sunny weather we have in Tucson, it was cloudy and 65 degrees. We survived just fine.
Below is the sign welcoming us to the zoo.
This is Jeannie between the rhinos and giraffe's deciding which one to sketch.
Below is a photo of Laurie who was trying ink sketches in an effort to sketch faster. She sure did do some neat fast sketches.
These are the giraffe's I sketched using my travel watercolor set. One giraffe is eating at the human provided feeder and the other giraffe is also eating from a slightly different human provider.
Laurie came over to us with her sketchbook and shared her avian contribution to her sketch. After we got done laughing, I took a photo for prosperity.....who would believe!
I noticed this tortoise and stopped to sketch in pencil. Silly me, I thought it would be easy to sketch, how fast can a tortoise move! Believe me, they can move pretty fast. I like how they literally lumber along, no matter what is in the way, they just climb over it.
I found Laurie and Jeanne sitting by the pond enjoying the ducks and flamingo's. Flamingo's have this funny habit of standing on one leg. Even though you only see four legs, there are three Chilean Flamingo's there. Colored pencils on moleskine.
After Laurie and Jeanne left, I found this rhino that really did stand and wait to be sketched. I did this in pencil in my moleskine and found rubbing in the graphite made a nice rhino-looking skin.
Some art students from U of A stopped by to see what we were doing and took this photo.
Speaking of talking, people visiting the zoo had no problem coming over to comment about us sketching. They all said they liked it. Thank goodness I am over my sketching in public fear.
It was another wonderful sketchcrawl day.
Visit Laurie's blog to see her neat ink sketches. Jeanne does not have a blog yet.
