Illustration Friday-Sorry

This 'dummy' is sure sorry he lied about stealing gold!

I found this 'hanging dummy' in Tortilla Flats, an old mining town in Arizona.
I couldn't resist doing it in watercolor in my Moleskine.
This is really a joke for the tourists. Please don't be offended by the image.

So Interesting! to find such! and paint it!

Arizona would be one of my favorite places to visit one day! So much to inspire one there.

Disturbing and compelling ! I just hafta ask the million dollar question...was the dummy meant to scare off birds, or tourists ?

Or, more insidiously, was it meant to scare off dummies...

Why am I feeling so insecure ?
:-D

Maybe it was meant to scare off artists :)

I feel much better about this drawing now that I have read your entry. I was wondering why you were drawing a hanging man!

BTW, I have been using your tip of putting a few drops of dish soap in the water when I paint, it makes a world of diffrence in how well the paint flows! Thanks!

Why is it always the dummies that get lynched?

Mercy -- good job on the painting .. disturbing image, nonetheless. Funny thing ... when I was studying the Live Oak for my masters thesis, I ran into so many 'hanging' trees ... I'm glad I never ran into anything hanging off one of them! LOL Good job, Teri ... very evocative!

Oh! This is creepy! People must do a doubletake when they see this. It does bring home the point, though!

WOW! You really got me on this one Teri! When I first started scrolling down I was thinking this is truly a departure from your other work, HaHa! I love that you use things that you have seen and visited in your art. This is great!

I am wondering if this week is going to be depressing with everyone's submissions, your's is the first I have seen so far. That must have been a trip seeing this hanging from the tree, I definately see the humor...

Another surprised viewer here! I knew it had to have a benevolent explanation, though, coming from you ;D.

this one will definitely get people talking! I think art is supposed to cause a stir. If it were just for the sake of being 'pretty' that would be boring, I think. I like art that makes a statement. Yours does. And it gets people talking about history, about hangings (and lynchings) and other interesting t hings. I look forward to our future sketch crawl!

Not a bit disturbing if you live in the West...this is just Western humor. Good one, Teri.

eek! For a second I thought some enterprising characters had given the KKK a taste of their own medicine! Incredibly original work.

Teri I find this an interesting drawing of yours, doesnt offend me at all, I have seen some pretty strange things here in Australia, and our local stuffed Father Christmas does the rounds and is frequently found hanging from a tree, although probably more from a leg than a neck, I am never sure if he is meant to be like that or a rope brokePenny in South Australia
