In January 2007 I did my first free form mandala. I posted a few on this Blog, but it wasn't long before I realized I was addicted to them and started another Blog, Teri's Mandalas so they could have their own space.
It was about this time that Linda told me about Zentangles. At that time they were teaching the use of a square to make a zentangle. So I tried the one above but did not like the constraints of the square and did not do anymore.
I kept doing mandalas until I saw this design on the Zentangles website and tried it in a mandala. That was the start.
I did this zentangle in November 2008 and suddenly I was in love with zentangles!
This is the one I posted yesterday. Who said it had to be contained in a square!Isn't that what art is, taking new steps into creativity?!
This look back was fun for me to do and see how zentangling grew to such a force in my life.
But now I seem to have lost my muse for mandalas.
You can't make a mistake when doing a zentangle. Once you start, it almost becomes a meditation. Look at the Zentangles website and you will get lots of ideas.

I love the look of color in your last zen picture. It makes this one seem alive.
I have done more zens too. They are a fun thing to do when the mind and body are too tired to concentrate much. It seems to relax the whole body.
What a wonderful evolution you shared with us. I like every single stage and can't wait to see what's next.

Thanks for this picture of the zentangle process for you. Interesting how things evolve. I have looked at the site, and maybe I misunderstand, but dont you have to pay money for the program? Anywya, I am not a design mind/detail person. But you do wonderful things with it.
these are fab!! that's right, who says it has to stay in the lines?
Yes Suki, you have to pay money for their program but who says you have to buy it when their ideas are there for all to view and use. That's what I did.
The more I do art, the more I realize how much I love design.
thanks for sharing these beautiful designs. your zentangling evolution is very interesting and really really creative and wonderful.
I love seeing the evolution Teri! Adding the color to yesterdays design made a huge difference. I love it both ways!
The first time I heard the word Zentangle was on Margarets blog. My friend had been doing amazing zentangles for years and didn't even know there was a name for it! Why should we pay money to doodle? We can all do these...and they're so theraputic. I have a book dedicated exclusivley for mine now :)
Gorgeous! The last one with color is exquisite, Teri! I love the loss of boundary. I understand this needing to be free with your design!
What fun seeing your history and progression in this form. Love the color in the final photo...it has a marti gras feel to me .
Love seeing this progression Teri...and the story that goes with it...How true of art..a growing evolution of possibilities!
Having just met you in NOVEMBER this year, it was fun seeing your evolution process from the mandalas to the ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS FREE FORM ZENTANGLE. YOUR CHOICE OF COLORS MAKES MY EYES HAPPY!

i must say zentangles entice me, but perplex me, i still need to practice...i know you can't go wrong, but they need to look right.
