My husband has been working overtime finding things for me to sketch. He came in the other day with a dead dove in his hands and it was still warm so he must have found it right after it died.I later found a huge smear on the porch window where it must have hit, probably flying from a predator.
So I took it on the porch, pinned it and sketched it.
Poor dove had one more thing to do and that was to let me sketch it.
Happy Animal Wednesday everyone!

This happens way to often on our large den glass doors, very sad.
Although very sad we can learn a lot from these accidents in the details of birds. I used to find them and put them in the freezer so I could keep studying them. The hubby was not so thrilled with this method, especially when I forgot to label them and it was not a happy surprise when he was rummaging through the frozen goods looking for dinner.
I see this one was done with watercolor pencils. Hurray. Judy
Glad to know I'm not the only one known to stuff a dead bird in the freezer!
Great job on the dove, Teri! Love all the details you've included.
A great way to study birds Teri. Like the old Masters. I am just happy that we don't shoot them for that study any more. Nice drawing. Love all the detail. Happy Animal Wedensday
Sometimes they just appear dead after a crash. I hope you made sure! (I've revivied several and sometimes it took hours.)
Anyway...great job on it!
HAW!
oh my. well nice sketch but as with lolo's comment I do hope dove was really dead. I wonder how you tell. Can you feel their hearts beating?
Yes, he REALLY was dead. Remember I was a nurse so I know dead.
This has been a fun read this morning. Nice detail and use of color. I should try sketching more from nature - but I'm not telling sweetie to go find me dead stuff!
Great detail here Teri...love the colors...DH is a gem...but a dead bird...?... Henry brings the dead mice but I have no desire to pin and sketch them, perhaps I should mail them to you. ;-)
Great job on the drawing. I could never do that because I am usually so heart broken I can't look at it. Mostly they hit windows when a hawk flys thru. But I know lot's study them and do fantastic studies as this is.
Love the way you find subjects everywhere. Scientific and artistic.
Maybe you could be a forensic animal person!!! LOL. Great job with the sketch! Beautiful bird...too bad.
it's so funny that he looks for things for you to sketch. Great idea to bring in dead animals...hope he stops at doves and doesn't go for additional road kill.
HAW to you Teri - on Thursday!
Beautifully observed...:)
Great sketch!
