The theme word at Illustration Friday this week is 'Brave'.
As I was gathering ideas I remembered this sketch and haiku I did in 2006 and knew I had to be 'Brave' to even look at this beetle much less sketch it.
I think the haiku pretty much tells how I felt.
Big, black and ugly
Imagine this in your house

YIKESSSS!!!! Tell me you didn't find that thing in your house! Those are some BIG chompers he has. I have a rule about critters in the house, nothing gets squashed or flushed. I can imagine trying to scoop him up in a cup and kicking him out! It is beautifully rendered. Nice job!
This put me to mind of a cockroach...they are so disgusting!!! Nice haiku to match your ugly ol' beetle!!! Nice painting, if I can bring myself to say it!!! LOLOL. EKE!!!
Terri, great bug. I actually am intrigued by bugs. Have you seen the show that was on CBS Sunday Morning about artist Christopher Marley. All his artwork is real (but dead) bugs. I have a jigsaw puzzle of one of his pieces. Google him you will be amazed.

Oh Man, this brings back horrid memories - of a giant bug/spider/monster that I had to vaccum up and then was tempted to throw the vac away! (DH rescued that)

I love beetles actually. I usually want to kill any bug that has a crunch factor because they scare me, but beetles do so much for us. Like killing the nastier buggies.
I'm also a huge Beatles fan! ;)
