Downy Woodpecker

I filled a yellow mesh bag with suet and hung it in the yard.  This Downy Woodpecker has been enjoying it ever since, usually upside down.
And I have enjoyed watching him.  Don't you love how they brace themselves with their tail?

I could have had some great texture on the bag if I would have had some mesh to paint over.....iin the meantime I made do with paint and marker.

Happy Birdie Wednesday

Fantastic sketch! We don't get many Woodpeckers in SF ...the few I have seen in Germany and Sonoma (that's an unusual combination, isn't it?)are always up in their trees, hard at work...or guarding the nest. I didn't know about that *tail action*....how wonderful!

I'm sure Mr. Woodpecker is grateful for his suet meals!!!! You are wonderful!

Love to you and DH,

We get flickers that do that here. Love to see them hanging upside down. :) Great job.

This is a wonderful picture, and I like your idea of possibly using mesh, for texture.
We do have lots of woodpeckers wintering here, and they are such fun to observe. I haven't noticed them balancing on their tails, but that is pretty neat! :)
