The Nutcracker Tradition

My family has a long history of enjoying the Nutcracker ballet.
I took my young girls and Mother-in-law to see it serveral times at the Milwaukee Performing Arts Center and we all loved it.

Then in 2006 my youngest daughter restarted the tradition of going to see the Nutcracker.  It was really a family affair with all the granddaughters, and my other daughter.
I sketched this Nutcracker to remember the year.

My daughter has quite a collection of Nutcrackers and in 2008 I painted this one.

Three years ago the dance studio that my grands attend started performing the Nutcracker of which they were a part of.
I always love going to see the ballet and watching them each year as they perform and each year they get better.
It is really quite a big production with lots of practicing and always a sold out house.
I apologize in advance as I don't really have the correct camera to capture a good photo but these are the ones that worked the best.  No flash was allowed.

Two years ago my daughter (in the red) became part of the adult party scene.
Even more fun for us.

These are the soldiers: Christina is on the far left and Angie is second from the right.

Theresa and Angie dance as the flowers which is so beautiful.

Don't know how I was lucky to get this one with Theresa on the left of the flowers.

The whole cast at the end for stage bows.

After the ballet the performers always come out to the public area.
Theresa, Christina and Angie.

This third production was really awesome, so professional and really just perfect.

We LOVED it!
We LOVE them!
and are
So PROUD of each one!!

I used to love to go to see the Nutcracker when my kids were young. It took them and friends. It is a wonderful tradition and I can imagine how enriched the experience is when you have someone you love performing. Love the sketches too.

Teri,
This was so interesting to hear the role the Nutcracker has played in your Christmas celebrations. Isn't the music wonderful? My small children loved to dance to some of the music when I've played some selections at daycare.
Your granddaughters look wonderful in these photos. How proud you must feel. :)
